What I’m Into – August 2018

My monthly “What I’m Into” post where I will mention different things I have been into throughout the month such as what I’m reading, what shows I’ve been watching, etc. I would love for you to comment back on what you’re into, based on the different categories. I love suggestions!

Reading

Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss – I was first introduced to this book back in 2011 but didn’t pick it up to actually read it until a few weeks ago. This book is life changing! The title is more of a marketing strategy that is meant to entice you (and it works!). The book is motivating to help you realize what your priorities are and how to get there. It is also full of tips and tricks on ways to free up your time, essentially helpful time management skills. Beware though because after you read this book you will most likely be fired up to quit your day job (which is ok)!!

Purple Cow by Seth Godin – This is a great marketing book. Seth Godin outlines how to transform a business by being remarkable. Essentially the story of the purple cow is no one remembers the perfect black and white cows, but they will always remember the remarkable purple cow…so be a purple cow! It’s a super easy read and I would recommend it to someone looking for ways in which to market their business.

Watching

The Handmaid’s Tale – If you have not watched this show, stop reading this article RIGHT NOW, put down your phone, and go watch it!!! It’s on Hulu and if you don’t have Hulu you can sign up for a free 45 day trial on their website. The series is about a totalitarian society that used to be the United States. The country is now run by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. So, in summary, it’s a crazy, jaw-dropping, can’t stop watching, show! I didn’t realize it was based on a book (The Handmaid’s Tale) before watching. So if I could go back and read the book before watching the series, I probably would. Prepare yourself for the bad news: it looks like season 3 won’t be coming out until 2019 (whyyyy sooo long!!). Blessed be the fruit….

Sinner – I remember seeing the previews when this debuted on TV and I wanted to watch it but didn’t get around to it until it was just released on Netflix and oh my goodness! It is so good! If you’re into crime and mystery – check this show out! It stars Jessica Biel (who also produces it) and the detective is Bill Pullman, whose acting and mannerism reminds me so much of Robin Williams it is eerie!

Also KUWTK Season 15 premiered this month and it’s my guilty pleasure…actually no I don’t feel guilty for watching it. Those women are hilarious, damn good moms and know exactly what they are doing when it comes to running a business. So yes I watch them on Sunday nights!

Listening

I’ve been on a big podcast kick this month with my current favorite ones (this month) being:

Coffee + Crumbs – Three women host this show and tell stories about everything motherhood related. I always find myself laughing through most of the episodes.

Mommy Millionaire – I really like listening to her episodes to get inspired to be more business-minded when I find myself needing a little more confidence. She has some really good strategies and ideas on how to pursue what you want!

Do You Even Blog – The name pretty much sums up what the podcast is about but it’s so much more. I have quickly become a huge fangirl of Pete McPherson (how can you not be a fan of someone with a name like that?!) So if you are thinking about blogging or are a blogger – check out the Do You Even Blog podcast! He also has great beginners step-by-step blue print to help new bloggers!

While running at the gym the last couple weeks I have been jamming out to:

In My Feelings by Drake ….kiki do you love me? are you riding?….I know you know the lyrics!

I’ve also been running to

Fade by Kayne, – I know its an oldie but such a good one to run to!

I Like It by Cardi B, – thats because I’m not a regular mom – I’m a cool mom.

Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks – always and forever listening to them.

Visting

We haven’t done much traveling this month and I can honestly say – thank goodness! We traveled for over two weeks in July so I was ready to embrace the life of being a homebody in August and finishing up some house projects we had been putting off the whole summer. We do have some good destinations coming up in the fall that I am excited about!

Celebrating

This month I am celebrating myself! I lost 10 pounds in exactly 30 days!! I weighed myself when we came home from vacation on July 15 and then weighed myself again on August 15 and I had lost exactly 10 pounds which is super cool I think! No gimmicks or magic pills or patches or whatever else is out there. I just told myself when I came home from vacation that I was going to start eating better, going to the gym every day and only drinking one beer/glass of wine a night (THAT WAS DIFFICULT) but I held up those promises pretty good and that is the result! I do drink Orgain Pea Protein after I go to the gym as a ‘protein shake’ because its delicious!

Momming

I’m not sure if that is a verb but I am going to make it one.

Randi and I have been working on her scissor cutting skills lately. We usually just cut up play-doh but I recently bought her this Melissa and Doug Scissor Skills Activity Book and she loves it!

Little Javi battled a cold this month which is super sad to see a 5-month baby struggling with a cold but the Nose Frida was a lifesaver!! We got it as a baby shower gift. It looks like such a gross contraption but I promise it’s not. This was our first time using it and it is literally the best thing ever! If you have an infant or toddler or know someone who is about to have a baby….buy them the Nose Frida and I promise they will come back and thank you one day. It is now going down in my book as a “new mom must have” item! So if I wasn’t clear enough before…BUY THE NOSE FRIDA!

It has been 100 degrees just about every day this month so our days that we are out and about have been spent at the library or at the splash pad and pool.

Living the Good Life (borrowing sister’s float)

The pool essentials that we are into lately is that cute little hat on Javi, which is a lifesaver in this sun, I got it here and love it!

Randi has also been rocking these cute little water shoes that are pretty high quality and really inexpensive. They are a must when the concrete is a million degrees on her tiny little tootsies.

Those are my ‘What I’m Into” items for the month of August! It was a fantastic month that flew by way too fast! Please comment below on what you have been into lately! I love suggestions for books, movies, shows, product must-haves, etc!
